The Summer Essentials of Craig’s Girls

Everyone has summer essentials… rockstar sunglasses, a striped, nautical-themed dress or  fun, bold printed short-shorts… but we have of jewelry essentials.  Those pieces that we can’t do without during the summer months, and the other three too!  It’s like putting on sunscreen in morning… we grab one of these items!

What is everyone doing these days?  Monogramming… your phone case, glasses, pillows, shirts… why not a necklace!  Jump on the bandwagon for something uniquely you!!

These gorgeous monogram pendants are designed by Ridgefield’s-own, Sarah Mulvaney, and can made in sterling silver or 14k yellow gold with one or three initials.  They’re old-school with a modern twist, and look great on women of all ages, shapes and sizes!

Next up, you got it… layering.  These gorgeous Syna Jewels gemstone fobs can be worn together or separately creating a new look with each combination.  Here we’ve combined blue topaz, milk quartz and turquoise on both 18k yellow gold chains and a leather cord.  Add other gemstones like black onyx, rock crystal or citrine for a completely different look.  With layering, the possibilities are endless.

And finally, for that special, summer occasion, yellow diamonds… and two of them, totaling over 13 carats of VS1, very good cut, diamonds!!! It doesn’t stop with the yellow diamonds… they are surrounded by 96 white diamonds totaling .47 carats.

So what’s hot this summer… monograms, layering and diamonds.  Don’t leave home without one!!!

Celebrity Engagements… Diamonds, Diamonds and More Diamonds!

There seems to be a rash of celebrity engagements… and we’re loving all the gorgeous engagement rings.  Who can forget Angelina Jolie’s modern sparkler from Brad Pitt? Or Jessica Biel’s vintage-inspired dazzler from Justin Timberlake? We’ve even started our own “Celebrity Engagement Rings” board on Pinterest.

Just this weekend, actress Keira Knightley flashed her new engagement ring ~ a simple, round diamond on a thin band ~ while kissing James Righton! For the entire story from People Magazine, click HERE.

Since we’ve got thoughts and comments on so many of the rings, we thought we’d give our picks for some super-stunning, engagement rings available at Craig’s Fine Jewelry.

This 3-stone white diamond and platinum ring has a 5.38 carat radiant cut center diamond with 2 pear cut diamonds flanking the center stone.

Wouldn’t this look gorgeous on anyone’s finger?  It reminds us of Kate Hudson’s engagement ring from Matt Bellamy.

This 5.03 carat, cushion cut, yellow diamond set in platinum and 18k yellow gold is surrounded by a white diamond halo with white diamonds on the band.

We can’t help but think of Carrie Underwood’s canary diamond engagement ring from Mike Fischer when we see this ring.

What do you think of our choices?  We’d love your thoughts and opinions.  Dish, dish, dish…

Cuff Bracelets… To Wonder Woman or Not!

A recent fashion trend on the Red Carpet is cuff bracelets… but wearing two, one on each wrist, a la Wonder Woman isn’t something we recommend, or even like.   That look is best worn by superheroes, punk rock stars and professional wrestlers!

Sarah Jessica Parker recently wore the two-cuff look at the Met Ball, and Brooklyn Decker wore it to the opening of the new movie, What to Expect When You’re Expecting.  Others in Hollywood seem to be following the trend as well (photo courtesy of People Magazine).

But in our opinion, cuff bracelets are bold, fun and fashionable ~ wearing one can update an old look, add flair to a plain outfit, or simply compliment your other jewelry selections.

So what do Craig’s Girls recommend?

A single, statement-making cuff looks best… have a look at some we adore:

This John Apel cuff is sterling silver and 14 kt rose gold with a large labradorite and complimentary red sapphires and moonstones, and looks gorgeous with jeans, a black dress or your birthday suit!

Not sure you want something this bold (or expensive), they try a cuff by Anna Beck Designs.

This sterling silver with 18 kt yellow gold, hand-painted accents and green chrysoprase are handmade in Bali and reasonably priced.

Another reasonably-priced design house who is designing some great cuffs: Honora!

This sterling silver, black pearl and onyx cuff makes a statement without being too bold.  The single shade compliments all colors and looks.

All bracelets featured are available at Craig’s Fine Jewelry.

Cheers and here’s to seeing single cuffs on the Red Carpet,

Fashion at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards

Sunday night brought musicians, celebrities, wannabes and groupies to Las Vegas for the 2012 Billboard Music Awards… and at times, it didn’t disappoint.

Adele won big with 12 awards including Top Artist and Top Billboard 200 Album, but was that really a surprise?  LMFAO, Coldplay and Lil Wayne also won multiple awards, but the award of the night, the Millennium Award, was given posthumously to Whitney Houston and accepted tearfully by her daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown.

The performances took center stage with Natasha Bedingfield singing Donna Summer’s classic disco single, Last Dance, and The Voice’s Cee Lo Green performing the Beastie Boys’ Fight for Your Right in honor of MC Adam Yauch.

But what did disappoint?  Some of the fashion statements and “wow” looks that we expect on the Red Carpet weren’t there last night.  Overall grade: “C”

Who wore what… and a few comments:

Carrie Underwood

Image

wore a busy, tulle gown from Oscar de la Renta’s 2012 Fall Collection (think: cotton candy) and accessorized it beautifully with a fun, pearl-covered clutch and peep-toe shoes.  Her jewelry was minimal:  earrings, a bracelet and her own wedding rings, but with her dress and clutch that was the perfect compliment.

Taylor Swift

Image

wore a flowing, red lace gown from Elie Saab’s 2012 Fall Collection.  Smokey eyes and straight hair, but very little visible jewelry.  We would have liked to see something… one of the season’s cuffs, stackable rings… something to add depth and interest.

Usher

Image

wore a fun, bright-blue, fitted suit, and if truth be told, he could have worn a bag and we would have liked it. His jewels: the watch, rings and bracelets were statements but not over-the-top.  The shirt wash blah, and would do better at a school play, and not making a run on the red carpet!

Miley Cyrus

Image

wore the most talked about outfit of the night, a Jean Paul Gaultier ivory, double-breasted tuxedo jacket.  And what was repeated over and over?

Where’s her pants?

Honestly, we’re still trying to figure out the Jacquie Aiche necklaces… there seem to be chains leading to nowhere… just like an Alaskan bridge.

Kudos for her hair and shoes… loved them!
